The word "Songkran" comes from the Sanskrit word "Sangkran", which means to step up, move up, or move, which means another way of saying that it is the beginning of a new zodiac or New Year's Day. As for the Songkran Festival, it is an ancient Thai tradition that has been passed down since ancient times, along with the Chinese New Year tradition. Therefore, it is collectively called "Songkran Festival", which means the tradition of bidding farewell to the old year and welcoming the new year.
Songkran is a public holiday in Thailand between April 13-15 of every year.
There are various important days. The Songkran holiday is divided into 3 public holidays:
- April 13 is called Maha Songkran Day
- April 14 is called Wan Nao
- April 15 is called Wan Theling Sok
