MakhaBucha Day falls on the full moon day of the 3rd lunar month (or the 4th month in a leap year).

It commemorates the day when the Buddha delivered the Ovada Patimokkha to 1,250 monks who gathered spontaneously without prior arrangement. This marks the first great assembly of monks in Buddhist history.
