Songkran is the traditional Thai New Year festival, celebrated annually from 13 to 15 April. The festival signifies the transition of the sun into the zodiac sign Aries and represents a time of renewal. It is a period dedicated to making merit, bathing Buddha images, paying respect to elders by pouring water on their hands, and enjoying water splashing activities as a symbol of cleansing away misfortune and welcoming good luck.

The word “Songkran” originates from the Sanskrit term “Saṅkrānti”, meaning “movement” or “transition.”

Important Days During the Songkran Festival :
13 April (Maha Songkran Day) : The official day when the sun enters Aries.
14 April (Nao Day) : A day of rest and preparation.
15 April (Thaloeng Sok Day) : The beginning of the new traditional year.
